A BOOK which errors outlines within urology at the trust which runs FGH has hit 60 in the bestsellers' list.

Well-respected consultant urologist Peter Duffy published his tell-all book Whistle in the Wind two weeks ago.

The whistle-blower's 244-page book describes clinical errors made by three of his former colleagues Kavinder Madhra, Muhammad Naseem and Ashutosh Jain over the last 19 years.

Mistakes made by the trio include one patient almost having the wrong kidney removed and two patients left suffering from renal failure.

Errors also contributed to the deaths of Irene Erhart from Walney and Peter Read from near Morecambe.

After spending years raising concerns about his colleagues Mr Duffy was constructively dismissed from the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Foundation Trust in 2016.

UHMBT and the Royal College of Surgeons have acknowledged the mistakes made by Mr Madhra, Mr Naseem and Mr Jain.

Mr Madhra left the trust in October after the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service imposed restrictions on his work and he is subject to a fitness to pratice assessment.

Mr Naseem and Mr Jain continue to be employed by UHMBT.

Mr Duffy, who now works on the Isle of Man, said: "Avoidable deaths and avoidable harm will never be completely eliminated from medical and surgical practice.

"However, it is vital that mistakes are acknowledged and learned from rather than hidden, so that we can safeguard future patients from similar errors and continue to improve our service."

Whistle in the Wind has sold more than 1,000 copies via Amazon.

In a review one reader said: "I had the pleasure of working with Peter for many years and I cannot speak highly enough of him, he is a true gentleman and always went above and beyond for his patients."

Mr Jain is understood to be on sick leave from UHMBT and private practice.
