A MOTORIST has appeared in court accused of doing 'skids' in Cavendish Street in front of up to 200 people.

Terry O'Connor gave no indication of pleas when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old, of Cross Street in Barrow, is charged with drink-driving and dangerous driving.

In the alleged incident, in the early hours of Sunday July 21, O'Connor is accused of driving the wrong way down a one-way street.

Prosecutors also allege O'Connor skidded his Green Skoda in front of people milling outside bars and pubs in Cavendish Street.

O'Connor, represented in court by Maureen Fawcett, is also said to have waved at police officers as they attempted to get him to stop.

He is alleged to have provided a sample of breath which revealed he had 112 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

The legal limit is 35 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

O'Connor was granted unconditional bail until his next appearance at Preston Crown Court on September 6.

Magistrates gave him an interim driving disqualification.
