The RSPCA is appealing for information after two newborn kittens were found dumped in a bin behind the Grand Hotel in Grange.

The ginger and tabby kittens were found by a gardener at the hotel on Tuesday (Aug 6), and with the help of a member of the public he was able to look after the kittens until the RSPCA could attend.

Inspector Sam Morris collected the kittens and after carrying out a health check, kept them overnight before transferring them into foster care for hand rearing.

Sam said: “These poor kittens are only around one week old, they haven’t even opened their eyes yet.

“Heartbreakingly there must be a mother cat out there somewhere missing them. They have a good appetite and it looks like they will make a full recovery but if they hadn’t been found the story could have been very different.

“Sadly we do see lots of incidents of animals being abandoned or thrown out like rubbish and it really is unacceptable to abandon any animal like this.

“Unfortunately we don’t know who could have done this but if anyone saw anything we would urge them to get in contact with us in confidence on 0300 123 8018.”

The RSPCA sees a peak in the number of abandoned animals during the summer months.

Last summer (June, July, August) there were 23,673 abandoned animals reported to the RSPCA. There is an 85% increase from the number of animals abandoned in the winter months.
