TWO people and their dog were saved from rising water levels after being trapped in a car.
Cumbria fire service crews from Bootle dashed to the aid of the driver and passenger who were stuck in the vehicle, which was approaching knee-high levels at Newbiggin, near Eskmeals Viaduct, at around 5pm on Tuesday.
Both Millom coastguard and Furness coastguard were contacted to assist by Cumbria fire service, with both later standing down.
A spokesperson from Cumbria County Council said: “They were handed over to NWAS for precautionary checks after being towed – as well as their Jack Russell dog.
“Fire service crews reassured them before their car towed from the water.”
A coastguard spokesperson said: “One person in the vehicle was reported to have mobility issues.”
