THE Northern Lights are coming to the North York Moors this winter as part of a new attraction on the iconic railway.

The Northern Lights Express will enable passengers on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway (NYMR) to travel through a forest transformed by a multitude of lights and surprises.

The illuminated journey starts at Pickering Station, where the NYMR train with heritage carriages awaits passengers, decorated with thousands of lights.

During the hour-long trip there will also be a stop at Levisham Station for a dazzling light show as the heritage steam engine prepares for the return journey.

The Northern Echo:

Chris Price, NYMR general manager, said: “Northern Lights Express services are not to be missed.

"The new event is going to be a light spectacular event, which will not only illuminate the North York Moors, but also engage a new audience”.

The Northern Lights Express will operate from November 30 and throughout December and costs £25 per person.

Tickets will be released as carriages are filled and can be booked online at nymr.co.uk or on 01751-472508.

The North Yorkshire Moors Railway is a preserved historic railway stretching for 18 miles through the heart of the North York Moors National Park and is the largest preserved heritage railway in the UK in terms of route mileage operated and passenger numbers.
