Mum’s the word for retired logistics manager Jane Cooper, who took a leap of faith when she followed in her daughters’ footsteps to make her first tandem skydive.

Jane, (62), of Hollens Cottages, Grasmere, used the jump to raise £1,007.50 in sponsorship money for Rosemere Cancer Foundation, a charity close to heart after undergoing radiotherapy treatment for breast cancer at Rosemere Cancer Centre, the region’s specialist cancer treatment centre at the Royal Preston Hospital. Jane was diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2018 but has now been given the all clear.

It was daughters Manchester-based Sarah (29) and Charlotte (27), who spurred her into taking the plunge at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockerham. Jane said: “Sarah’s boyfriend Nate Williams took up the sport and he got Sarah to jump last November.

“Her sister Charlotte, who lives in Colorado, then decided to try it so I thought I wouldn’t be outdone and had better give it a go! Nate signed me up and it was fantastic. My instructor was so helpful and filled me with confidence. I would do it again.”

When not braving dizzy heights, Jane, who lives with hubby Stephen, enjoys horse riding and fly fishing. She is a member of Grasmere Village Society and the Grasmere Red Squirrel Group, which is devoted to conserving the local red squirrel population.

Rosemere Cancer Foundation works to bring world class cancer treatments and services to cancer patients from throughout Lancashire and South Cumbria being treated not only at Rosemere Cancer Centre but also at another eight local hospital cancer units across the two counties, including those at Westmorland and Furness General Hospitals.
