'ANGRY' residents have voiced safety concerns after a property development company have been bringing large HGVs through their street.

Homeowners in Sir John Barrow Way have called for property developers Oakmere Homes to using their street to gain access to the Lund Farm housing development in Ulverston.

They have claimed that despite Oakmere Homes being expressly forbidden from bringing construction vehicles through the estate during the build period according to the planning agreement, over the past two weeks there has been a steady growth in HGV's coming through the estate.

One resident, Alan Brenton, said: "We are obviously angry.

"This is an estate where children play and there are HGVs coming through from 7am.

"Questions around safety and residents entitlement to quality of life were the reasons the restrictions were put in place to begin with.

"I think residents are beginning to give up hope.

"There is no real disincentive for the property developers.

"Unless they are hit with a big fine or forced to cease work, why would they stop using the estate."

Ulverston Councillor Dave Webster, said: "This issue has been brought up before.

"Part of the planning agreement was that they don't use the estate as they have a designated entrance which they should be using.

"I definitely be in touch with planning and highlighting this issue in the hope of getting it sorted as soon as possible."

Mark Wilkinson, Operations Director at Oakmere Homes, said: "The construction vehicles referred to are from Key Utility Services who are undertaking new mains laying through the existing estate and although this work is required for our new scheme the works are not in our control as they are being provided by a Statutory Undertaker.

"I would further advise that we have permission for construction vehicles to enter site through SJBW as the planning condition was varied and agreed some time ago with SLDC."
