INTEREST is building ahead of the opening of a new bingo hall in Barrow.

Work is progressing on transforming the former Kwik Save on Holker Street.

And bosses from the company behind the new Opera Bingo have said they have been inundated with visitors to a stall in Barrow market where prospective members can sign-up.

The bingo hall has also started recruiting ahead of its opening, with around 25 jobs expected to be created.

Daryl Davidson, the head of operations at the Workington-based Graves (Cumberland) Ltd, the company behind the development, said there was no opening date set yet.

However, it was believed when the work started earlier this year that it would be ready around August. A sign outside says it is 'opening soon'.

Ms Davidson said: "Our stall in the indoor market has been open a little while now and it's been going really well.

"Lots of people have been coming to find us and we are doing well at signing up members

"There seems to be a lot of interest."

She added: "The work is coming along really well.

"The opening date would depend on when the contractors finish the work."

The bingo hall's manager Paul Holland has previously visited the market stall to talk to the community about plans for the Opera Bingo hall.

Barrow has one other place to play bingo - at Apollo Bingo in Hollywood Retail Park.

Opera Bingo has three other branches in Cumbria.
