AS A magistrate you perform a rewarding and worthwhile voluntary activity in your community. You do not need legal qualifications as training and support are provided but experience in decision making, team work and being able to think carefully and logically helps.
Applications from all sections of our community (aged 18 to 65) are welcomed now to sit in the adult criminal court in Barrow.
Magistrates are not paid but they do receive expenses (including loss of earnings) and decide when they are available up to six months in advance.
If you can commit to at least 13 days a year (plus three-four training days), we would like to hear from you. More information and an application form are available at www.gov.uk/become-magistrate
