A BARROW business is helping to keep youths busy in an ‘extreme’ way.

Urban Extreme Skate Park, on James Freel Close, is set to open its new Outdoor Pump Track this weekend.

The track, which will predominately be used by BMXers, has been two years in the making and has been designed with providing a safe place for the town’s youths to develop their urban abilities.

Jane Keith, 48, runs the skate park along with her husband Jason.

She said: “The main motivation for us was to work with the police and provide somewhere for kids to blow off steam.

“We have an indoor unit, which is used by BMXers, skateboarders, incline skaters, and scooters.

“However, 2018 was a very hot summer and we weren’t able to provide a place for people to enjoy themselves under the sun, but now we do.

“If all goes to plan, the new outdoor track should be open this weekend."

She added: "It’s been a couple of years in the making, but we’ve had help from a few Barrow businesses, including Harry Barker Properties, Tony Brown Aggregates and BAE Systems, which have all supplied us with materials.

“Although the project has cost around £25,000, it would have cost a lot more without the help, so I’d like to thank those who have assisted us.

"Once open, we’ll look to employ four new staff members.”
