The pupils learned from Mr Kelly how to hold the audience’s attention and how to make an entrance.

Year 4 children started to make their stories relevant to their community and all children had the opportunity to perform to an audience.

Sir John Barrow pupil, Amethyst, expressed her enjoyment for the performance.

She said: “My favourite session was when we grabbed out stories and placed them in Ulverston.

“I loved it when we performed on Saturday."

Sophia also expressed her appreciation for the project helping build her confidence.

She said: “It really helped me with my confidence and to realise storytelling isn’t a play where you can only be one character.

“In storytelling you can be as many characters as you want by zipping in.

“I love storytelling and I would love to do it again.”

Year 3 teacher Nancy Fletcher said: "As a teacher, I have had the opportunity to observe Dominic as he tells stories.

"I have built a tool kit of ‘tricks’ for engaging children more fully as I am teaching.

"The year 4 teacher and I have been able to adapt elements of the storytelling project for our English lessons, such as story bones and jam-loading.
