A MAN has been arrested after attracting the attention of local police by walking down a city high street naked.

The naked man caused a stir on Monday when he was spotted walking down a busy city high street in broad daylight.

The nude man was seen by passersby walking down Above Bar Street in the buff at around 6pm.

The man even attracted the attention of local police, who were seen to stop him outside Tang’s Chinese Restaurant.

A witness said that it looked like the officers were “trying to take his cigarette off him, but he wouldn’t let them”.

“It happened at around 6pm.”

Hampshire police have told the Daily Echo they were called to reports of an indecent exposure on Above Bar Street at 5.45pm.

The 44-year-old man was later arrested but officers have said no further action will be taken.

A spokesperson said: “We were called following reports of an indecent exposure in Above Bar Street, on July 15 at 5.45pm.

“A 44-year-old man was arrested. No further action will be taken.

“The man is under the care of mental health services.”

A spokesperson for Hampshire police confirmed the incident happened at around 9.30am on June 21, 2018.

The 30-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of indecent exposure.

He was later released from custody

The man was reported to be walking down the street completely naked with only a pair of sunglasses on.
