VANDALS have caused major damage to coaches at the Wensleydale Railway. Windows were smashed and seating thrown out onto tracks at the railways home site at Leeming Bar, near Bedale.
General Manager Robert Williamson said some of the damage is irreparable. He discovered the damage on Sunday morning.
He fears it will cost hundreds if not thousands to repair at one of the railway's busiest time of the year during the school summer holidays. I
t's thought some of the seating has been ripped out to create makeshift beds with writing daubed on the walls. The 22 mile long line runs trains through the Wensleydale countryside from leeming Bar through Bedale and Leyburn to Redmire.
It's operated by a group of volunteers. The railway has appealed for anyone who saw anything suspicious on Saturday night/Sunday morning to contact them or the police who are investigating.
