High Wycombe BID company will take to the high street on this week with a campaign aimed at encouraging people to shop locally.

The campaign, on Friday, July 26, will mark the close of July’s independent retailers’ month and looks to champion High Wycombe’s vibrant independent scene and highlight the number of indie businesses around the town centre.

The HWBIDCo team will be in the high street on Friday to hand out their free ‘Best Little Indies’ guide and encourage visitors and residents to take part in the town’s first ever ‘cashmob’.

To get involved in the event, visitors or residents need to spend £5 or more in any local independent business on the day. Shoppers will receive a special ‘cashmob’ card with each purchase which they can photograph and tag @HWBIDCo on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to be automatically be entered into an hourly prize draw.

Participants can also bring their ‘cashmob’ card or receipt to the HWBIDCo gazebo based in the High Street.

Discussing the importance of the event, HWBIDCo BID manager Melanie Williams said; “Independent businesses help bring personality to our high street.

"This campaign is about supporting those businesses and helping visitors and residents to see that there are many hidden gems located around the town – they just need to know where to look.

"Those taking part in our cashmob event can not only win some fabulous prizes, but by supporting these independent businesses, we can all reap the benefits long-term and help our high street thrive.”

As well as the cashmob, HWBIDCo will also be running a summer-long voting competition to find High Wycombe’s most loved independent businesses.

Voting closes in September and one voter will also be selected to win a £50 shopping voucher.
