ONE of the UK's most celebrated touring theatre companies is revving up for a hilarious night of Shakespeare.
The Festival Players stage Much Ado About Nothing, the Bard's fast paced comedy full of twists, turns, verbal dexterity and jealous plotting, in the family friendly surroundings of Ulverston's Ford Park tomorrow night.
Performed by a traditional all-male cast - just as it would have been in Shakespeare’s day - the famous line "the course of true love never did run smooth" will never have been more true, as the sparring antics of Shakespeare’s erstwhile lovers, Beatrice and Benedick, provide great hilarity for the other members of the household who plot to reunite them.
The delicious comedy will be brought to life in a crystal clear, energetic, colourful FP production, enhanced by original songs, plus lightning fast costume changes.
The Festival Players are a professionally renowned theatre company delivering the best in open air Shakespeare and touring theatre.
The performance starts at 7.30pm, with the park open for picnics beforehand and visitors are asked to take along their own seating, rugs or blankets. Refreshments will be available.
Tickets are on sale at The Coach House at Ford Park or on 01229-581666.
Also coming up is the Ford Park Family Fun Day, a fundraising event to raise money for Ford Park Community Group, the charity which runs and maintains the popular park. Staged on Saturday, August 3, from 11am-4pm, attractions include food stands, a raffle, children’s activities, games, stalls, animals, a car boot (weather depending) and more.
And there's more...on Saturday, August 31, the park hosts a Classic Car Rally and Vintage Fun event, providing families with the chance to enjoy a day of much-loved classic vehicles, children’s activities, stalls and more (including a car boot sale weather depending). The event runs from 11.30am-4pm.
Chief executive of Ford Park Community Group Jill Salmon said they were looking forward to a fantastic summer at the park and hope plenty of families join the fun at the special events: "Not forgetting the park itself, with a playground, nature trails, plant nursery, cafe and lots of open space to run around. It’s an ideal place to visit with your family this summer holiday."
