A PUB in Ulverston has underwent a £200k refurbishment in a bid to improve its customer experience.

The Piel Castle pub in Ulverston has re-opened following a four-week £200,000 refurbishment by Stockport-based Robinsons Brewery.

The refurbishment was carried out to accentuate the pub’s existing features – including retaining the original open fireplace.

Original stone walls and existing timber cladding have been fully sandblasted, to clean and lighten the eye-catching structures.

The repositioned bar has also been newly-constructed with mild steel and reclaimed timber, enhancing the the rustic feel throughout.

Licensee of 12 years, Ben Jones said: “I have run the Piel Castle for over 12 years now, during which, the popular town centre pub has built up a great reputation for music and live entertainment.

“The Piel Castle has been hard used over the years, so has now undergone a full refurbishment.

“The bar has been repositioned to allow a wider area for customers to watch the live entertainment on the stage area and there are also brand new toilet facilities with full disabled access.

“The lighting and decor have been vastly improved, inside and out, with new high quality furniture throughout, such as beer barrelled tables and leather seating.

“The pub has reopened with all of our music nights and entertainment carrying on as usual!”

Simon Taylor, Business Development Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “We wanted to retain the liveliness of the pub, but improve the customer experience by updating the layout and adding in accessible features.

“Relocating the bar has given much improved visibility to the entire space offering a clearer view for customers to enjoy live music events, and also meant that we could really show off the immense height and drama of the interior space.”

With the use of oversized window dressings and an eclectic mix of finishes and colours - along with a memorable mix of bric-a-brac - the area can now be both a drama filled venue as well as a cosy, post-wander relaxing drinker’s pub.

The Piel Castle is an ideal spot to visit day or night and the extensive range of new gins, cask and craft beers which is sure to excite your taste buds while you enjoy some fantastic entertainment.

The external beer garden is perfect for some tipples in the sun until late.

The Piel Castle is open 7 days a week, with live bands most nights performing from 6pm onwards.
