A WOMAN was rescued early this morning next to Jubilee Bridge.

Furness Coastguard mobilised around 4am to help the woman who was seen in the water.

Working alongside Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Cumbria Police and North West Ambulance Service, the casualty was safely rescued and brought ashore for further care.

A Furness Coastguard representative said: "We we're tasked by Cumbria Police to reports of a woman in the water.

"The woman was recovered approximately 50 metres South of Jubilee Bridge. Fire Service, ambulance and RNLI tasked.

"Great multi agency team work and the lady was suffering from early signs of hypothermia.

"We handed over care to North West Ambulance Service.

"I believe there was fire engines from Walney, Ulveston and Barrow there.

"Fire Service deployed water technicians also."

Communications Officer at North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust, Christina Guthrie, said: "We were called at 3.56am to a female patient in the water.

"We wouldn’t be able to speculate on how or why the patient was in the water."

The ambulance took the woman to the hospital but there was no details of any injuries.

Barrow Lifeboat and Millom Coastguard Rescue Team were tasked but later stood down once the lady was safely recovered.

The woman was taken to Furness General Hospital.
