FOR many years Furness railway passengers could see the decaying remains of two old funeral cars as trains passed Lindal.
The Mail, on July 6 in 1995, noted: "A 1952 Pullman hearse and mourners' car were retrieved from the old Keats Garage, in Abbey Road, Barrow, by former haulier Ricky Johnson when he was demolishing the building.
"He took them to land at the old Lindal sidings and planned to restore them but his plans fell through.
"Now Mr Johnson says recoverable parts from both cars have been sold to a Classic Hearses Club enthusiast in Scotland and the remains are to be cut up for scrap."
