ACTRESS and singer songwriter Heather Peace will headline this year’s Cumbria Pride event.

Heather, who has appeared in London’ Burning, Silent Witness and Waterloo Road, will perform with a live band and will be supported by Sonique, Janice Robinson, Cappella and Christopher Maloney from X Factor.

The 10th anniversary event will take place in Carlisle Castle on Saturday, September 28 from midday until 10pm.

There will also be support from musician Stevie D and Ross Alexander from Big Guys Don’t Cry.

Jacquii Cann will also perform as Alison Moyet.

A spokesman for Cumbria Pride said: “It is completely free of charge for people to attend, including families, and we welcome everyone.

“Let’s show children that LGBT+ is a normal part of our community, so they grow up confident in who they are and who their friends and family are, whether LGBT+ or straight allies we all belong.”

There will be also be a parade from the city centre to the castle at 11am.

Participants will gather from 10.30am.

There will be food and a funfair and information stalls.

No alcohol is allowed on the site.

Cumbria Pride has grown considerably in the last 10 years.

It has gone from having a small presence in the Milton Hilltop Hotel to a large scale event in the city centre.

In the past it has attracted some big names including pop stars like Whigfield, The Venga Boys, The Three Degrees, Collabro, 911, Eurovision star Nikki French and Soft Cell star Marc Almond.

A committee of members work hard all year round to fundraise to put the event on.

There will be a Stride for Pride walk event will take place at Hammonds Pond on Sunday, July 21 at 1pm. Dogs are also welcome.

The path is suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs. Support Cumbria Pride by either paying £1 to walk, or by collecting sponsors for yourself, your group or your dog to walk!
