A KITESURFING business on Walney looks set to get a new base on the car park at West Shore Road.

The original plan by Earnse Bay Kitesurfing was to site the portable building on grass next to the toilet block.

But that application was postponed last month after Barrow Borough Council’s planning committee said it was concerned it was wrong the location.

Barrow council plans to work with the applicant Chris Ainsbury to come up with a suitable location on the large car park instead.

Charles Wilton, the council’s principal planning officer, said the applicant and the council were happy with the alternative site.

Mr Wilton said: “It occurred to me that given that it would take time for these plans to be devised, it would speed up the process if the committee was willing to delegate the decision to ourselves to issue the approval for the application to site it in the car park.”

The planning committee, chaired by Cllr Colin Thomson, agreed that the council’s planning department should be allowed to make the decision rather than it coming back before councillors again.

It is intended that a portable building be used as a base for the business, including a classroom and store, open between 8am-4pm Monday to Sunday and Bank Holidays.
