COUNCILLORS are due to call for action on special needs support.

At the next meeting of Barrow Council on Tuesday, Councillors Hayley Preston and Ann Thomson are due to propose a motion to improve SEND provision and policy making.

It follows action on the SEND Crisis Day in May that saw parents and teachers march through Barrow in protest to special needs funding cuts by the Government.

The motion will ask the council to identify a point of contact between it and parents and carers disability groups to 'improve communication and understanding between the policy makers and those most affected by SEND reforms'.

It also asks to discuss and promote SEND support in Cumbria and acknowledge difficulties in accessing early interventions by local families and schools.

The meeting at the town hall starts at 5.30pm.
