A COUPLE of homebirds happily declared their love for one another in a beautiful wedding ceremony at a Barrow church.

Karli Buckingham, 40, community worker at Barrow Fire Station and Kevin Crisp, 39, employee at Furness General Hospital said ‘I do’ in front of their closest family and friends.

The couple first met 12 years ago in September 2007, meeting on a night out at Barrow's former floating night club Princess Selandia.

The couple had both known of each other before the night after growing up in Hindpool together.

On the night, Karli said: "He came over and asked if I wanted a drink and we just got on straight away."

When Kevin first saw Karli he said how good looking she was and how much he wanted to get to know her more. Karli also described Kevin as a 'really friendly' and 'approachable' character.

For their first date they went to The Duke of Edinburgh on Abbey Road.

Karli said that the date went really well and how much they realised they had in common.

In particular, she highlighted their shared love of similar music such as Oasis and Stone Roses as well as retro dance music.

Karli said how natural things felt between them and how she was not nervous at all on their first date.

The couple then bought their first house together at the start of 2017 in Hindpool.

Both would describe themselves as 'homebirds' and how much they love living in the Hindpool as their families also live nearby.

Kevin then proposed to Karli in October 2017 whilst they were on holiday.

Karli said: "We were on holiday in Tenerife on the beach with just us two around and the sun setting - it was very romantic."

Karli had inkling that Kevin was going to propose as it was also their 10 year anniversary.

The couple then tied the knot on May 31 at St James' Church in Barrow.

104 guests were at the ceremony with another 70 guests joining in the celebrations later on at The Dunes Hotel.

Karli said how 'perfect' the day was and how everything was very relaxed.

Guests were treated to a buffet and entertainment from Stephen Creber, who played acoustic guitar during the drinks reception, and DJ Keith Wilkie who played later on.

Karli also said how 'amazing' it was to be surrounded by their family and friends and how the whole day was 'filled with love and happiness'.

Kevin also said how 'wonderful' an occasion it was and how much they are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together.

After their special day the couple enjoyed one week in Portugal for their honeymoon.
