Worthy causes benefitted to the tune of £1,000 when Freemasons from the Grange over Sands Lodge handed out their latest donations.

During a visit to the local dental practice, cheques for £250 were hand to David Tomison for the Vine Trust for emergency dental work in rural Africa, Barbara Leader of the Cartmel and Grange Scout group, Emma Cross representing the Teenage Cancer Trust and Mike Hill who received a donation on behalf of the organ refurbishment appeal for the parish church of St Paul.

Lodge member Neville Chanin said: “The lodge mainly gives to charity through the national freemasons’ charity but we always make a point of holding events to raise funds to be distributed locally. Local organisations such as the hospice and air ambulance benefit from our national charity but we feel we need to connect with our community by giving direct to them.”

All four recipients thanked the Masons for the donations with Emma Cross observing, “There is a lot of demand from very many good causes for funds and we are pleased that the Masons have chosen to give money to the Teenage Cancer Trust. I speak for all four of us when I say that their generosity is much appreciated.”
