A CHANCE to celebrate a millennium in Furness doesn't come round very often so the fun must continue whatever the weather.

The Mail, on Tuesday, June 6 in 2000, noted: "A Millennium street party ended up as a house party after the rain bucketed down on Saturday.

"The residents of Brennan Close, Roose, in Barrow, still managed to have more than two hours of food and fun in the street before the downpour.

"When it rained, 45 people decamped from the street into organiser Judith Harvey's home for the rest of the afternoon - and the evening - to continue the party and stage karaoke."

Mrs Harvey said: "Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves."

Despite the rain, there had been time for youngsters to put on their best costumes for a fancy dress event and to tackle the inflatable assault course.
