THERE’S a real sense of excitement in the air ahead of tomorrow’s Super Soapbox Challenge in Barrow.

The organisers have put a huge amount of time and effort into arranging the event which will see the entirety of Dalton Road commandeered.

And with another hot day forecast the conditions couldn’t be better for a bumper crowd to take advantage of the warm weather and fun festivities.

With plenty of outdoor seating and special dispensation to drink alcohol outside it promises to be a great day for all the family.

Town centres have taken a battering with the closure of national outlets but here in Barrow we have a great mix of independent, local retailers.

And it is those retailers, and staff at the bigger chains, who need and deserve our support.

The soapbox derby could become one of the biggest events on Barrow’s calendar but it needs the backing of the Barrow community to ensure the race returns next year.

The Mail is fully behind the Barrow BID team responsible for organising the derby and particular credit must go to Colin Garnett who has worked tirelessly behind the scenes to turn it into such an impressive event.

So, come on Barrow, let’s make sure we come out in force tomorrow and get behind what will hopefully be the first of many Super Soapbox Challenges.
