A WALNEY man has been jailed for nine weeks after 'blatantly' breaching a curfew.

Stephen George Pedley, of Portsmouth Street, pleaded guilty to the breach when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court on Friday.

The 52-year-old was given a curfew in May after being convicted of failing to provide a specimen of blood when suspected of driving above the legal alcohol limit.

The motoring offence happened on April 18.

Pedley had failed to be at his home address between May 21 and June 5.

The total time spent away from his home during the curfew hours was 156 hours and 22 minutes.

He also admitted failing to surrender to the court on May 8 when he was on bail.

Magistrates said Pedley showed a "wilful and persistent failure to comply with the requirements of a community order and showed blatant disregard for the courts".

The bench said the breaches were deliberate and they had no option but to jail him.
