AUTHOR Caroline Gilfillan will be reading from her new murder mystery novel The Terrace at Ulverston Library on Thursday, July 4 (7pm).

Drawing on a long tradition of murder mysteries, the book is an updated version of what's described as 'cosy crime' and follows in the footsteps of writers such as Agatha Christie.

The story tells of disgraced journalist Rags Whistledown, who lands on her dad’s doorstep with just her suitcase, guitar and debts for company. But a chance encounter draws her into a murder mystery she must solve.

Caroline has been writing fiction for many years. Several of her stories have been published and won prizes. She's also a poet with four published collections.

As well as reading short extracts from the novel, Caroline, of Ulverston, will talk about how she set up Cowslip Press, a small publishing house based in her home town.

Cowslip Press has recently published The Drum-roll in the Dark, a collection of poems by David Bell Nicholson, a poet born and raised in the town who sadly died five years ago. His widow, Gill Nicholson, who worked with Caroline to produce the collection, will talk briefly about the process.

Copies of both books will be on sale at the event.

Ticket are available from Ulverston Library on 01229-404151.
