A SPECIAL parade celebrated the work of the armed forces in Furness.
Members of a number of military groups joined together for a procession through Barrow to mark Armed Forces Day.
After a service outside the town hall, they marched through the town before joining up with the vibrant Barrow Carnival proceedings.
Crowds lined the streets to see members of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, the RAF Association Barrow and submariners from BAE shipyard, as well as the RAF and army cadets.
It was the second year the parade has run in Barrow.
Barrie Downer, vice chairman of the Submariner’s Association, which was the organising committee for the day, said it was another successful year.
Mr Downer said: “It went very well.
“We saw great support from all the crowds that were watching on from both sides of the road.
“Last year was the first year we did the parade and it was another successful year this time."
He added: "It was great to see all the groups come together.”
The deputy Lord Lieutenant for Cumbria, the deputy leader of Cumbria County Council and Barrow mayor Kevin Hamilton were all in attendance as guests on the day.
The parade formed part of the national Armed Forces Week, which will conclude with a ceremony in Salisbury on Saturday.
