A BARROW couple have donated thousands of pounds to support special needs schools in the area.
Caroline and David Vickers, who used to run the Tuesday Club for people in the area with special needs, have decided to close the club and therefore donated £6,000 to both George Hastwell School in Barrow and Sandside Lodge School in Ulverston.
Karen Baxter, head teacher at George Hastwell School, said: “We were very surprised and really pleased when Mr and Mrs Vickers came to give the money to the children.
“We have been developing the outdoor areas at the school.
“We’re fundraising for a new play area at the back of the school.
“The children were really excited.
“That amount of money will make a real difference.
“We will now be able to get one area done very soon.”
