Text for top story at side of page 4 for Saturday - pic of Rod white in cemetery
THE stories behind the stones at Ulverston cemetery will be told in an illustrated talk to members of the Furness Family History Society on Monday, July 1.
Rod White’s presentation starts at 7.30pm in the Community Development Centre at Barrow Island Primary School. All are welcome.
Ulverston cemetery was opened in May 1878 as the graveyards at St Mary’s Parish Church and Holy Trinity Church had become full.
Among the hundreds of headstones at Ulverston are those from men who died in the two world wars and those who met their deaths in boating and skating accidents.
You will also find notable Ulverston figures from solicitors and landowners to religious leaders and councillors.
