POEM and a Pint moves out of Ulverston for its next event on Saturday, June 29 (7.30pm), to one its summer venues, Greenodd Village Hall. In the literary spotlight will be poet Ilya Kaminsky. Odessa-born Ilya became profoundly deaf following an illness when he was four years old and his world was a silent one until in his teens suitable hearing aids could be fitted when his family sought political asylum in the United States in one of Ukraine’s more troubled periods during the collapse of the Soviet Union. Ilya will read from his latest book, Deaf Republic. Meanwhile, providing the music for PP's Greenodd gig will be multi-talented musician, environmentalist and educator, Amy Clouds. MC for the evening will be one of Ulverston’s best loved poets, Caroline Gilfillan. Pay at the door.
