CRIME scene investigators are continuing to scour the neighbourhood where a man was allegedly murdered.

Police obtained a custody extension to keep the 28-year-old man suspected of murdering his John MacMillan on Tuesday.

Officers were called to a house in Provincial Street by paramedics at around 6.30pm. Mr MacMillan, 70, was declared dead at the scene having suffered fatal stab wounds.

A cordon remains in place while detectives continue to investigate the incident.

Specialist officers have been conducting a search of a fenced-off overgrown plot at the end of the street.

The custody extension is due to expire on Friday morning when police will have to either charge the suspect or release him.

Meanwhile tributes have continued to flood in for Mr MacMillan who has been described as a 'true gentleman'.

Debbie Smith said: "Such a tragedy. John you were a true gentleman. My heart goes out to all the family at this very difficult time.

"You are in my thoughts. God bless you John."

Julie Grieves said: "So, so sad. John was a lovely guy, and always had time to chat. Thoughts are with his family."
