I have been very sorry to hear about the shameful harassment given to one of the Syrian refugee families in Barrow, to the point where some of them are afraid to leave their homes.
Not many generations ago Barrow was a small village and very few families don't have branches that came from somewhere else.
They came from all over the British Isles and far beyond to better themselves, learn new skills, escape poverty and troubles; to flee wars and to help us fight them.
Many people still come to settle here for the same reasons.
We would all hope that our ancestors were made welcome and treated with respect and these people fleeing such awful horrors with their small children deserve the same.
