PEOPLE lined the streets for a special parade this weekend.

The sounds of drums and trumpets could be heard across Barrow Residents, families and councillors came together to watch the parade and celebrate Civic Sunday parade march through town.

Barrow Sea Cadets, the RAF Association Furness Branch and Dalton Town Band were amongst the groups to get involved in the parade and celebrate the day.

The sounds of drums could be heard throughout Barrow as the parade marched from the Town Hall, across the town before arriving at St Mary’s Church.

Manny Gribben, Parish Priest at St Mary’s lead the service, after which people were invited to return to the town hall for coffee.

Civic Sunday is also an opportunity for residents to get an introduction to the new Barrow Mayor, Kevin Hamilton.

Cllr Hamilton was recently sworn in as mayor for the next year with Councillor Helen Wall acting as Deputy Mayor.

Speaking after he took part in the parade, he talked about how he felt the day went and the importance of events like Civic Sunday.

He said: “The event went brilliantly.

“It all went really well, thanks to the Parade Marshall, as well as Dalton Band and Reverend Manny Gribben.

“It was a wonderful day, people came out to watch and could take part.

“Friends, family and councillors came down to get involved.”
