A GREAT Motorcycle Ride, organised by Barrow motorcycle dealer Martin Crooks, attracted 203 riders who raised £11,000 for the Hospital Equipment Fund for Furness – or HEFF - back in 2002. Also added to the total raised was £1,000 from Ulverston publican Roger Chattaway and £1,000 from David Stoller of Barrow furniture store Stollers. The £13,000 was spent on a ventilator for the intensive care unit at FGH, which was presented to the unit just before Barrow saw an outbreak of legionnaire’s disease. The ventilator had helped save a number of lives. Shown with the ventilator are, from left to right, Martin Crooks, David Stoller, intensive care nurses and Roger Chattaway.
