Princess Anne will visit West Cumbria next month.

The Princess Royal will undertake two engagements on July 2, Kensington Palace has announced.

She will officially open Campus Whitehaven - the new site for St Benedict’s Roman Catholic High School and Mayfield School - which opened its doors to pupils in January.

The Queen's daughter will also open Gen2's newly built head office at Lillyhall, Workington, in her role as President of The City and Guilds of London Institute.

Gen2 was established in 2000 as one of the county’s leading apprentice training providers and became part of the City and Guilds Group in 2017 as well as the first City and Guilds Institute of Advanced Technology.

During the official opening, The Princess Royal will have the opportunity to meet local apprentices and hear about their studies before taking a tour of the Gen2 engineering workshops.

A spokesperson for Gen2 said: "The Princess Royal is President of the City and Guilds of London Institute, so it is extremely fitting and a great honour to welcome her Royal Highness to Gen2."
