A BARROW man who left a newborn baby permanently brain-damaged is set to be sentenced tomorrow.

Callum David Crowe, 23, was convicted of wounding with intent and child cruelty after a trial in April.

His co-defendant Abigail Louise Wood, 23, was given a prison sentence of nine months, suspended for 18 months, earlier this month.

Their trial heard the eight-week-old baby, whose identity is protected, has been left with permanent brain damage and is highly likely to develop epilepsy as a result of the attack carried out on him by Crowe in December 2016.

Crowe has never revealed how the baby was injured but specialists at his trial described them as being “consistent with being dropped on its head from a first floor mezzanine”.

He had been due to be sentenced on May 23 but the case was adjourned after the court heard Crowe was ill.

A hearing took place when a judge determined if he was fit to be sentenced.

Now, he is listed to be sentenced at Preston Crown Court on Monday.
