A BUILDER has admitted misleading a home-owner and using unfair and aggressive techniques to force them to have some work done.

Daniel William Austin-Ward indicated guilty pleas when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates' Court in Barrow on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old visited the home of David Moore in Levens on January 12 and rushed him into signing a contract for work to be done which resulted in him waiving his right to cancel.

Austin-Ward also failed to tell Mr Moore of his legal right to cancel; harassed and coerced Mr Moore into signing a contract he would not otherwise have done; displayed the Confederation of Roofing Contractors on his van when he was not a member and deceived Mr Moore about the price of the work or the way the price was calculated; over the following two weeks.

The prosecution has been brought by Cumbria County Council's Trading Standards department.

Austin-Ward, of Windsor Grove in Morecambe, was remanded in custody.

He will be sentenced for the five offences at Carlisle Crown Court on July 5.
