A SPECIAL memorial ceremony is being held in the grounds of Distington Hall Crematorium next week to mark Father’s Day.

A tree-planting ceremony will be held at 12.30pm on Friday, June 14 to give families the chance to remember their much-missed family members. It will also feature readings.

The Father’s Day event follows successful Christmas and Mother’s Day services held at the crematorium, and a further event is planned for Baby Loss Awareness Week in October.

Carla Christian, the event’s organiser, said: “The Christmas and Mother’s Day events were popular and we’re delighted to be extending our series to mark Father’s Day.

“It will be something slightly different this time, with an outdoor daytime ceremony that will include a tree-planting with a plaque to be installed.

“We know that for people who have lost their father, their grandfather or a father figure in their life, Father’s Day can be emotional time. But we hope that by hosting this uplifting occasion, it will give families the chance to come together to celebrate the life of their loved one.”

Entry is free and there is no need to book a place.
