The Walney Wind Cheetah Cubs organised a group litter pick around their running route at Sandy Gap and Biggar Bank.

More than 50 children and parents took part in the event, collecting nine full bin bags of litter in 35 minutes.

Run leader and chairman, Dave Gomersall, said: "The children thought it was great to be able to give something back to our community and see how much dropping litter has become a problem in our area."

Walney Wind Cheetahs is a free, friendly and fun running group, based on Walney Island, Barrow.

They currently have 20 trained run leaders who assure new starters of a warm welcome whether they are new to running, returning after a break or an experienced runner.

The cub welcomes girls and boys from 4-16 years of age who run during the spring and summer concurrently with, but separately from adults following a simple programme of two minute walks and six minute runs.

Training sessions are Monday and Wednesday 6pm – 7pm.
