SCHOOLGIRL Emma Greenough was joined by classmates as she hoisted a standard she designed on the flagpole at Whitehaven Marina.
The 2019 Free Flow Flag notifies walkers that the harbour gates are open, so people are unable to walk across when it is flying.
Emma, from St Bridget’s Primary School in Egremont, was the winner of the design a flag competition.
The contest was the idea of the late president of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, Gordon Thomson, who died earlier this year.
The winning flag was chosen and presented by Mr Thomson’s wife, Kathy.
