COUNCILLORS are ready to fight dog fouling amid claims that the problem is “rapidly worsening”.

It's staggering that in this day and age that the councillors in Ulverston need to talk about this issue — and even more staggering that they are being forced to look into eco-friendly methods of deterring errant dog owners.

It is, of course, the owners who are at fault.

If your dog does what comes natural to it in a place where it shouldn't, there is absolutely no excuse for not cleaning up.

You would have thought that by now the message would have got through. So for a councillor to claim that it is a problem on the rise is a sad state of affairs.

That councillor wants to put up some signs warning owners.

He wants the signs to be stencils which are eco-friendly and will 'dissolve' after time.

But a better idea than a few signs that will no doubt cost a few quid would be to take action against the owners who don't clean up after their four-legged pals.

If you had a dog warden going around and slapping fines on those responsible - the humans rather than getting Pluto in a tailspin - then the problem would soon stop.
