A MAN due to be sentenced for leaving a newborn baby with catastrophic injuries has had his case delayed.

Callum David Crowe, 23, was convicted of wounding with intent and child cruelty after a trial in April.

His co-defendant Abigail Louise Wood, 23, was given a prison sentence of nine months, suspended for 18 months, earlier this month.

Their trial heard the eight-week-old baby, whose identity is protected, has been left with permanent brain damage and is highly likely to develop epilepsy as a result of the attack carried out on him by Crowe in December 2016.

Crowe has never revealed how the baby came about the injuries but specialists who testified at his trial described them as being “consistent with being dropped on its head from a first floor mezzanine”.

He had been due to be sentenced on Thursday May 23 but the case was adjourned after the court heard Crowe had been taken ill.

A new sentencing date is yet to be scheduled.
