Millom School pupils arrived late to school during exam season yesterday morning as a result of strike action.
The strikes, which are set to finish on Wednesday 29th May, started after Unite the Union opposed the payment and treatment of the outsourced staff at Sellafield’s nuclear site in Cumbria.
The striking staff are provided by outsourcing giant Mitie, which is at the centre of this employment storm.
A spokesperson from Millom School said: “The Sims Travel Bus (out of catchment) has been caught up in the strike action this morning.”
A Sellafield spokesperson said: “Sellafield is not directly involved in the dispute, which does not involve any of our employees.
“However, we are taking steps to mitigate the impact of the industrial action.”
Sellafield are prioritising staff safety and security.
