THE new mayor of Dalton was presented in a meeting which also saw the town’s community heroes honoured.

Councillor Nick Perie was handed the mayoral chains by outgoing mayor Sam Ronson, while town greats were bestowed with awards for Community Champion and Citizen of the Year.

The latter went to Barry Doughty, chairman of Dalton Community Association, who was praised for a successful year managing the town’s community hub.

Raymond Willock was named Community Champion for his work in organising more than a thousand walks around the town.

Mr Perie, who has been a Dalton councillor for 15 years, said he was excited for what will be his second term as mayor.

He said: “I’m always excited. It’s a honour to be named the mayor of Dalton.”

Sam Ronson said: “I have really enjoyed my year as mayor. There have been a lot of events to go to. And I like to think I have been able to help residents.”

Mr Doughty said: “It’s a great honour and a reflection of all the hard work put in by the volunteers.”

Craig Fox was named as this year’s deputy mayor and six charities received cheques.
