NOBODY should go to work fearing being abused.

Especially not people who do such a valuable job in the healthcare sector - be it nurses, doctors or cleaners.

Our Furness General Hospital workers deserve to go about their day-to-day work without fear of violence or harassment.

So to hear someone who needed their help turned on them in such a horrible way is disheartening.

Craig Adams is now behind bars after unleashing a torrent of abuse at hospital staff for the fourth time.

A court heard he shouted abuse at medical and security staff while there for treatment following an overdose.

These people were simply trying to help him.

They did not deserve this.

Those who hit out at our frontline doctors and nurses do not deserve the fabulous NHS care which they give out every day.

The penalty for hitting out and abusing hospital staff could be much stronger to try to dissuade others from doing something similar.

NHS staff will always do their best, even for abusive patients, but we must draw the line somewhere.

He was jailed for 24 weeks, but is likely to be out in 12.

At least that is 12 weeks staff can go about their job without any bother from him.
