A 14-YEAR-OLD motor fanatic, who suffers from a rare life-limiting illness, celebrated his big day in style after 50 bikers descended on Barrow’s Kill One to surprise him during his birthday bash.

Taylor Smith, who has Niemann-pick Disease, reached the life milestone celebrating with more than one hundred visitors throughout the day at the venue, on Duke Street.

The young Barrow boy, who is infatuated with motorbikes, was not aware a mass group of bikers were on the way to meet him after spending the afternoon celebrating with his family and friends.

Taylor’s mother, Stephanie O’Hara said: “It was a fantastic, special moment when I saw his eyes light up as the bikers pulled in.”

Once the biker group came on site, the brave young Barrow lad wasted no time in trying some for size, ably assisted by his helpers.

Miss O’Hara added: “A highlight of his day was sitting on what looked like an extremely scary motorbike - but I was so happy for him.”

The bikes on show included a 250cc, MV Agusta, a large capacity Harley Davidson, a trike, classic Suzukis, a 500 Velocette from the Mark Newsome collection, and a Taylor Roberts MotoX machine.

And it does not stop there for the town’s young hero as Taylor is set to take a tour in a two-seated motorbike next month in Penrith.

Ms O’Hara added: “The bike tour will see him take a trip around the town, which I know he’ll love.

“Last year Taylor took a trip in a helicopter over Blackpool, so it’s definitely going to be hard to top all this for his 15th birthday.”

It was only last year when health professionals said Taylor would not make his 13th birthday due to his rare condition, which is often referred to as childhood Alzheimer’s.
