A SCHOOL'S breakfast club is 'going strong' after starting two months ago.

Walney School pupils have been urged to take advantage of their free breakfast programme as it continues to go from strength to strength.

Walney School is part of the National School Breakfast Programme, a government initiative which aims to make sure every child has the right fuel for learning.

The programme is delivered by a partnership of two charities, Family Action and Magic Breakfast, and is funded by the Department for Education.

More than 1,770 schools in disadvantaged areas have started to expand breakfast provision between March 2018 and March 2020 and this project has helped more than 500 schools across the country.

A spokesperson from the school said: "Our Magic Breakfast is still going strong and we urge students from all year groups to come along and enjoy some breakfast between 7.45am and 8.30 am Monday to Friday.

Pastoral support Mrs Amacna, who works alongside Mrs Kavanagh to coordinate the breakfasts, said: "We aim to target all students at breakfast time so that they can start their day off with a healthy nutritional breakfast and chat with friends and staff.

"Our students love the idea of a buffet breakfast where they can serve themselves. The breakfast offers porridge, toasted bagels, a selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, hot chocolate and cold drinks. One young man said it has made a huge difference to his concentration levels and learning in class."
