A TOWN centre bar said alarms could have been triggered by people setting off smoke bombs in the toilets.

Revellers heard smoke alarms go off on Saturday night at Tailors Bar and Lounge in Barrow's Dalton Road.

Following the incident, bosses from the bar said they were investigating what happened and suggested people smoking in the toilets could also have been the cause.

A post on the Tailors Facebook page apologised to bar-goers who may have been affected and reminded people that smoking in a public place was illegal.

It said: "We would like to apologise to any of our customers who were impacted last night.

"We believe there may have been an incident with individuals smoking or setting off smoke bombs in the toilet which triggered the alarms.

It added: "We are looking in to this, but would like to reiterate that smoking inside enclosed public places is against the law!

"Once again our apologies to those affected."

The Dalton Road bar has been a popular addition to the high street since it opened last October.

It offers a selection of cocktails, beers, wine and spirits as well as food and snacks.

The space was previously empty for two years.

Before that it was occupied by menswear retailer Greenwoods.

The shop closed its doors for the last time in 2016, not long before the business went into administration in 2017.

The smoking ban, making it illegal to smoke in all enclosed work places including bars and pub, has been in force since 2007.
