FIREFIGHTERS were called out to help rescue a casualty from a vehicle following a crash in South Lakes.

Two fire engines from Windermere and Ambleside were mobilised to a road traffic collision involving a car and a van on Lake Road, Windermere at around 6.30pm on Thursday.

The incident took place at the junction of Lake Road and Beresford Road near to the Craig Manor Hotel Windermere.

The incident involved a Blue Mazda Car and a Silver Vauxhall Van.

When at the scene firefighters used hydraulic cutting equipment to extricate the casualty from the vehicle.

Police said the driver of the Mazda received injuries believed to be minor.

A police investigation is currently under way into the incident.
